Here we see the culmination of a decade's work as a clinic is dedicated to serve the population of this small village in Uganda.

OBAT Helpers is a non-profit, 501(C)3 organization committed to providing aid, support, education and economic empowerment to the suffering and displaced people known as, “Biharis.” The Biharis have been stranded in Bangladesh since it achieved independence from Pakistan in 1971. Referred to as, “stranded Pakistanis,” this community was supposed to be repatriated to Pakistan after the two countries separated but most of them could not due to political complications. They are presently citizens of nowhere, unclaimed by either country and marked by the UNHCR as refugees, yet deprived of the rights of refugees. They still live in the camps that were supposed to serve as their temporary shelter forty years ago. This population is scattered across sixty-six camps which house around 300,000 people. Gods Grace Garden, or GGG, is one of the first totally organic farms in China. Established in 2001 by Terese Zhang, GGG covers 150mu (about 25 acres or 10 hectares) and not an inch is wasted! Surveys show over 40% of them are suffering from unemployment or unstable job security due to the language barrier and a lack of resources in access to quality Chinese language education. This week on Profiles In Caring, a story to inspire the entire family.  Dr. Sherman Coleman of Shriner's Hospital, devoted his entire life to helping those less fortunate.  Profiles had the opportunity to join Dr. Coleman on his historic last trip to Juarez,  as he provided orthopedic care for children in the poorest areas of Mexico.  We are proud to present this story in his memory and to re-enforce the good work done by all of those associated with Shriner's Hospitals across our nation. Then, we're off to find "Common Ground."  In this case, common ground is the launching organization for those with disabilities.  From snowshoeing to white water rafting, this story will uplift you and encourage you to find common ground for all people.

This week, Profiles In Caring examines the phenomenon of angels....real, live angels doing good for people a half-world away. Angels For Afghanistan is an organization formed by spouses of United States National Guardsmen serving in Afghanistan. The women thought by doing service, like sending shoes, they could help supply basic needs. Well, wait until you see what this has developed into now! And then it's Neighbors Helping Neighbors – Just as the name implies, this group recruits volunteers to help middle and low-income residents fix up their homes. Watch as new recruits catch the spirit of volunteerism – and help improve our community!

This week on Profiles In Caring, a look at the formation and continuing impact of the Rose Education Foundation. Randy Ellsworth tells the incredible story of surviving a devastating earthquake in Guatemala. After locals literally saved his life by pulling him from the rubble, he vowed to return and help the country which had given him a second chance at life. That vow became reality when Randy formed the Rose Education Foundation. But the story doesn't end there. We'll also introduce you to Jeff and Nancy Flamm, who so believed in what Randy and the Rose Education Foundation was doing, they decided to forego the annual family vacation and travel to Guatemala to help build schools, a library and basketball court.

It is a New Mexico man's life long mission to deliver goods and American good will to those in desperate need. Then, we're off to Ecuador as Project Perfect World leads an international effort to bring orthopedic surgical care to destitute young patients who never afford these life enriching procedures.

First we travel to Broomfield, Colorado and pay a visit to the standard in pre-school education when itcomes to the integration of developmentally challenged children and those we see as "typical". Bal Swan, an early, successful local developer, donated land for this school and now, 50 years later, it is amazing what these dedicated teachers have accomplished. Next, to Layton, Utah and those who help women fighting domestic abuse. We followed Bear for three months to catch the humanitarian side of what this incredible individual does.From visits to hospitals, homes and Easter Egg hunts, "Bear" has been giving for 16 years.And, as a treat, you will HEAR Bear speak for the first time about his job, his giving and the legacy of humanitarian workinside the Utah Jazz organization.

we return to Cambodia for the first day of school with the PonHeary Ly Foundation. Their goal is to locate and serve the many children in Cambodia who live in the poorest rural villages and do not attend school. School in Cambodia is "free" during primary school, but the problem is that most impoverished children do not have the approximately $20 a year it costs to procure uniforms, shoes and their school supplies.The PonHeary Ly organization provides these "$20 bundles" so that the maximum number of children can attend primary and lower secondary school. The recent earthquake in Haiti has focused the world's attention on this Caribbean island, and an unprecedented global relief effort is now underway. But Haiti has long needed help, and one of the first Profiles in Caring episodes we did took us there nearly 8 years ago with a group called Hope Alliance. Another episode took us back to Haiti in 2008 with a surgical team, Village Partners International. Both nonprofit groups we featured are still working in Haiti today, and both suffered tremendous losses. Lives were lost, along with years of friendship and progress. And leaders in both groups say their work WILL GO ON.

"Our purpose is to protect and provide for animals while fostering an awareness of their importance in our lives." Friends of Animals Utah (FOAU) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Park City, Utah. FOAU is comprised of staff and volunteers dedicated to assisting shelters in northern Utah, in rescuing and finding new homes for dogs and cats. Through shelter rescues, FOAU has achieved the goal of ending euthanasia of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats. Under certain circumstances, our group also rescues animals from the streets and responds to cries for assistance from local pet owners who can no longer care for their pets for various reasons.
